1958 Mercedes 220S Ponton Coupe

1958 Mercedes 220S Ponton Coupe LHD Manual Transmission. Finished in the original Factory Specification Colours of Ivory over Dark Grey with a Light Tan Leather interior. This S version (one of 1251 built in 1958 of which only 56 LHD cars survive)  has twin carbs and  the options of a factory fitted sliding steel sunroof plus folding rear seat for extra luggage. Built on 16.6.1958 and despatched to the USA  some time after where it was registered in the dry State of Kansas and had just 2 owners from 1964 to 2007 with a letter from Mercedes Indiana on 9.9.1964  to the first of these owners. The first owner kept a handwritten  logbook (in which he referred to the car by the name Maximillian ) of all works/ maintenance carried out and the mileage covered and this was continued by the next owner who acquired the car in 1981 up to 1985 after which time the car was used sparingly before he sold it in 2007 and it was exported back to Germany in 2008. On return the interior was refurbished by Autosattlerei Werner Schafer of Berlin including  complete new factory specification leather upholstery and carpets plus a new headlining. The car was then on sale in 2009 with E.Thiessen of Hamburg and further  refurbishment was carried out for them by HK-Engineering. In 2011 the car was acquired by a significant UK collector and it has formed part of his large collection since then. In the boot is a superb 3 piece set of period German Mercedes  luggage in contrasting tan. The condition is as you would expect from a US dry state car  in that it is rust free  with exceptional  paintwork,  excellent brightwork and woodwork with  clean black undersides/chassis and the benefit of a completely  retrimmed interior plus  the car is a pleasure to drive with excellent oil pressure  and a smooth transmission with a current recorded mileage of  90,000 miles .  The history file includes the owners log  , an invoice file from the USA , Germany and the UK  ,a copy of the  Original Mercedes Data Card., Owners Manual, Parts Catalogue , Main Dealer list, sales brochure and tools . A recent full service and brake overhaul has been carried out by a UK Classic Specialist and  the car is UK MOT tested.   All Taxes  are paid in the EU. and  the car is UK Registered  £ SOLD
