1960 Abarth 2200 Coupe by Allemano RHD.

Between 1959 and 1961 Carlo Abarth produced a range of grand tourers that were elegant with the high performance that Abarth customers were used to. Three models were built in very small numbers , one of them being the Abarth 2200 Coupe, bodied by fellow Turin based  coachbuilder Allemano . These coupes were the height of elegance and performance and  twice the price of an E-Type and more expensive than an Aston DB4.

This example Chassis 038118, the only RHD car out of a total of 28 built of which around only 10 survive , was  to special order for Tony Crook of the Bristol Car Company who was also the Abarth UK importer. The car was displayed on his stand at the London Motor Show. Fitted with part alloy bodywork with a 2162 cc 6 cylinder engine with triple Webers producing 135 BHP and  mated to a 4 speed short shift manual box  with all round disc brakes the car was ahead of it,s time in many respects.

The car had just one owner  until 1990 when it was sold to the second owner  Chris Knapman of Collectors Car Books who intended to restore it , but sold it in 1995 to Scheldt and Pettet in Harrow,  North London  who restored the car to a very high standard with a back to bare metal restoration with a complete photographic record of the work carried out.   After the works were completed the car was shown at several GRRC members events.

In 2004 the car was purchased by a significant UK private collector  who kept it in his  large collection for 15 years until recently. The car is in beautiful condition in every respect  and the car looks like it could have been  restored in the last few years .

The car comes complete with a photographic file of the restoration, full ownership record ,old  MOT test certificates, original sales pamphlet from Anthony Crook Motors Ltd and various letters and an  Abarth history brochure.

Recently  serviced and ready to use the car is a joy to drive and the handling is superb , plus the car retains  the original and valuable UK registration number 4 VPJ which was issued when the car was first registered in 1961 and is included in the sale.
